The implementation of the Environmental Protection Act and
the withdrawal of the ICRCL Guidance Note 59/83 in addition
to other changes in government guidance, has led to the requirement
to carry out site specific risk assessments to determine whether
a site is contaminated or not.
Alexander Associates undertakes contaminated land investigations
in accordance with Government Guidance. This involves undertaking
a Phase 1 Environmental Risk Assessment which typically involves
a site visit, a review of data available, liaison with the regulator
and the development of a conceptual risk assessment model.
Where a Phase 1 approach identifies a significant risk we will
recommend strategies to enable this to be further investigated
in a Phase 2 assessment. Any Phase 2 assessment undertaken is
targeted to ensure we fully understand the risks posed by particular
contaminants.
Alexander Associates can provide the following risk assessment
services:
- Contaminated land investigations:
- Desktop studies;
- Design and project management of site investigations;
- Interpretation of results;
- Material management (ie determining reuse for soil
and recycled aggregates); and
- Invasive and noxious weeds.
- Modelling risk exposure
- Managing remediation processes
- Liaison with statutory bodies and regulators
- Contaminated land and waste legislative review and advice
- Determination of waste characteristics
- Geotechnical investigations
